What is Low-Dose Lithium?
In low doses, lithium can improve various mental health conditions and acts as a natural anti-inflammatory. Lithium is a naturally occurring mineral found in our food and water. As a metal and salt that conducts and stores energy in the brain, increasing natural lithium levels can better distribute neuronal energy and inhibit aging enzymes like GSK-3. Balanced energy promotes a positive mood, supports the brain’s detoxification process, and enhances overall emotional wellness.
What Does Low-Dose Lithium Treat?
Standard lithium prescriptions typically range from 600 to 1200 milligrams daily and are often used to treat bipolar disorder or schizophrenia. However, doses as low as one milligram of elemental lithium can be beneficial, regardless of your mental health challenges. Low-dose lithium can help treat: – Post-Covid-19 symptoms – Alzheimer’s disease and its prevention – Mood disorders – Cognitive decline – Addiction or overuse of alcohol, cannabis, nicotine, and benzodiazepines – Suicidal thoughts – Anxiety – Stress – Self-destructive behavior – Depression – Sleep issues (difficulty falling and staying asleep) – Aggression – Impulsivity Lithium supports the brain’s aging process, improves cardiovascular health, musculoskeletal function, metabolic health, and aids in inflammatory and antioxidant processes.
How does low-dose lithium treatment work?
- More than one in five American adults lives with a mental illness, and those rates are on the rise. Low-dose lithium is a safe treatment option to enhance mental health by improving anxiety, sleep patterns, reducing self-destructive behavior, or slowing down brain aging.
- When safely prescribed in low dosages, clinical trials and numerous studies on the mental health benefits of standard forms of Lithium or Lithium orotate, a supplement form of lithium, are gaining attention as an innovative way to improve overall mental health and augment traditional therapeutic regimens. With prescription lithium, you’ll typically take low doses, at or below 150 milligrams of Lithium Carbonate. Depending on the condition, low-dose Lithium may be prescribed alone or in conjunction with an antidepressant medication.
